Nickie Burditt is a Canadian-born artist who lives in Lake Country, British Colombia. She received her BFA from the Alberta University of the Arts in 2014. Primarily she works with acrylic paints on wood panel, but she also has an affinity for water-based oils and any other magical materials. By day she runs the Oyama Lake Eco lodge (www.oyamalake.com), and by night she paints and is excited to soon offer art retreats at the lodge.

Statement:

Living in an off-grid cabin in the woods has had quite on affect on my artwork. Having lived in a big city for 12 years I always felt like there was a block preventing me from finding my true inspiration. Now that I am surrounded by trees, water, islands, cabins and animals, I find it much easier to amalgamate these elements into a whimsical narrative. As a child I was always drawn to story books with intricate artwork involving nature and animals and now as an adult I feel blessed to be able to spend my time re-creating similar fantasies.
